Blind or Disabled
There are classifications for the blind and disabled or paraplegics. If all owners do not occupy the property, a partial homestead classification may be given. Taxpayers seeking the blind/disability classification must make application to the Lake County Assessor before October 1st for taxes payable the next year. Disabled Veterans
This program provides a market value exclusion for property tax purposes for the homestead property of an honorably discharged veteran who has a service-connected disability rating of 70 percent or higher, surviving spouses of qualifying veterans and service members, and primary family caregivers of qualifying veterans. Managed Forest Land
The classification 2C – Managed Forest Land has a reduced class rate of 0.65 percent and is available to property owner’s who own property that is: Un-platted real estate that is rural in character, is no less than 20 acres, is not used for agricultural purposes, and is not improved with a structure; that has a qualifying forest management plan in place but is not enrolled in the Sustainable Forest Incentive Act (SFIA) program (see below). A minor ancillary, non-residential structure does not disqualify a property from this classification. Please refer to the application and instructions for further information. Sustainable Forest Incentive Act (SFIA)
The Sustainable Forest Incentive Act (SFIA) allows annual payments to be made to enrolled owners of forested land as an incentive to practice long-term sustainable forest management.
